After an emotional troubleshooting session involving Me, texts from Auntie C, and my new flash, we finally found out that the batteries were just shitty...
I swear, batteries and I will be enemies to the end.
Anyway, I practiced photographing a glass Lemonade bottle in hopes to learn how to balance my flash.
After a bit, I got some nice balanced photos (plus the flash was getting a bit warm) so I loaded them onto my comp to see what I got.
The forth image in was an underexposed image that was just the reflection on the top part of the bottle, the rest was black.
So I went back to take another batch trying to recreate it but expose it just a little more to get more of an outline... Well... this is what I got.
That "Calypso" Ruined everything.
But I shall try again with a non-labeled bottle next time.
I looked it up, and there are other photographers that have played with this same idea. I probably saw a photo like this a while ago and subconsciously I am full filling that urge to replicate it.
But, once I am able to replicate it, I can put a personal edge on it and hopefully someday make it mine :)

I like the Calypso. I think it brought something interesting to the pictures. If it were a modern looking label it would have distracted. Keep trying! I am excited about the possibilities of what bottles we need to drink up for a bottle photo shoot.
ReplyDeleteAbout batteries…It stinks being a battery, you are either working or you are dead.
We need to set an empty bottle on glass or Plexiglas and light it from underneath. What say you?
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteand I love the idea of plexiglass!!!
I have REAL glass at my home if we want to use that!
(and good joke!)
